Out Of The Bag Update

Here is the latest update on my large pastel painting.

This is a view of the entire painting surface, as you can see I work from upper left towards the lower right, working backgrounds first, then mid-ground items, then foreground.

Detail view of the progress so far. I'm pretty happy with the giraffe, but it needs a little more work.

"Out Of The Bag" Update

Here are the latest steps in the creation of the pastel painting, "Out Of The Bag"

As usual, I start with the upper left hand corner of the background and work from there. Feels like the bag is already taking shape nicely.

As I progressed across the painting, I realized that my right hand was obliterating the drawing on the Ampersand panel, so I taped up a piece of tracing paper to protect the light drawing underneath.

A New Pastel Underway

Here is the beginning of a new pastel. I call it a monsterpiece as it is 24" tall by 36" wide.
Here is where I always begin:

The Set-Up
This part of the process is a lot of fun as I get to arrange and rearrange the items for the still life, play with the lighting, and such.

The Drawing
This is the pencil drawing that I did from the original set up. I try to work out all the details and any potential problems on the paper before I start working on the very expensive Ampersand Pastelbord.

News from "Where We Are" Opening

Just wanted to let everyone know that the opening for my and Stu Eichel's exhibit with the Oakroom Artists went very well. The crowd was small, but enthusiastic. I sold three of my pastels. Nothing like sales to reenergize your attitude.

Getting back to blogging

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am starting a 24 x 36 pastel still life, largest size that I can work. I will be posting regular updates so that anyone can follow the progress.
